German automaker Volkswagen, on Friday rolled out its one-millionth car, Volkswagen Ameo in Carbon steel colour in India from its Pune Plant. It was in year 2009 that the first car SKODA Fabia was produced in this plant and later 3 other models - Volkswagen Polo, Vento and Skoda Rapid were rolled off by the end of 2010. The Pune plant has supplied more than 4 lakhs cars to 50+ countries spread over Asia, Africa, North America and South America.
In the words of MD of the company it an important milestone for the company keeping in mind the long term commitment that the group has for India Automobile Sector. Moving forward company plan to further strengthen it by increased localisation and ramping up the productions. The company would continue to make world class products for Indian market and also many other markets around the globe.
"With this achievement, we look forward to many more such milestones and commit a stronger product portfolio and heightened customer experience in the years to come,” said Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
The VW group is gearing up for strong hold in the Indian automobile market through its regional project INDIA 2.0 which would concentrate on making India specific cars. The group is investing 1 billion Euros (Rs 8,000 crore) in this project and has already set up a Technology Centre at the Pune Plant to start local development.
