The Japanese automaker Toyota senior official has gone on records to state that pre-buying of diesel vehicles ahead of BS-VI implementation in April-2020, will boost the vehicle sales.
The BS-VI diesel vehicles are, expected to be 15 to 20% expensive and Toyota is gearing up to take advantage of this by tapping into the advance purchases by large fleet operators and shared mobility players which are price sensitive. The company expects the consumer's will pick-up BS-IV vehicles rather than waiting for BS-VI vehicles.
The company would be launching a campaign to educate its customers, particularly in fleet and employee transport, shared mobility. The message is clear that the cost is going to increase and provide them with solutions in either BS-IV or BS-VI to meet their needs. This would help the company to gain some sales but overall numbers still lower by 5 to 8% over last year numbers.
Toyota registered a 7% growth in FY-2018-19 with 1,50,525 units compared to 1,40,645 units in FY 2017-18. The passenger vehicles industry is by 15 to 18% whereas Toyota sales are down by 10 to 12%. Although the decline is in double digits for the company hopes that pre-buying would help arrest the decline to a single digit.
