Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover is completing 10 years of its operations in India and the company plans to accelerate its business in India by building on the foundation laid in last 10 years.
The way to go forward is increasing the local content and investing in manufacturing. Currently 6 out 11 models that JLR sells are assembled in India. With the establishment of its brands Jaguar and Land Rover today out of 4 luxury vehicles sold in India in the category where JLR is present, one belongs to JLR. The company, which started in 2009-10 with a sale of 200 cars, is now in the range of 4000 odd cars annually, which is a significant achievement.
JLR has a manufacturing facility based out of Pune where it makes 6 vehicles like Jaguar XE, Jaguar XF, Jaguar F-sreePACE under the Jaguar portfolio. Under Range Rover, it makes Evoque, Range Rover Velar and Discovery Sport under the Land Rover portfolio. The price band of JLR brands ranges from 40.61 lakhs for Jaguar XE to 1.82 cr for Range Rover.
Land Rover vehicles, such as Discovery Sport, are well known for their capability in tackling difficult terrains and situations caused by floods and other such calamities. JLR has loaned a specially prepared Discovery Sport to Rapid Response (an NGO specialized in disaster management)
The company is working towards making JLR an aspirational brand and have been successful in connecting with a large population with 7 million followers on various social media platforms.
